When purchasing a commercial general liability policy, and the owner and/or employees of the subject company sometimes drive their own personal autos on behalf of the company, Non-owned, hired auto coverage should be considered. Most personal auto policies explicitly do not cover driving for business purposes. In fact, most auto carriers do not offer an endorsement for business usage of a personal auto. On the other hand, your commercial business owner’s policy, or commercial auto policy coverage will not extend to the personal autos of the owner of employees. So, if an accident happens, it is not covered. Adding non-owned/hired auto coverage to your commercial policy, covers the scenarios we described above. If you don’t have it on your policy, reach out to me discuss at don@donmullinsagency.com or 844-324-3629.
